Is the onscreen competition between Miley Cyrus and fellow tween Disney sensation Selena Gomez about to get real?
I’m told Disney executives are so worried about Cyrus’ recent controversies that, more than ever, they want to make Gomez an even bigger star.
The 15-year-old Gomez now stars in the Disney Channel hit Wizards of Waverly Place, but last year she appeared on two episodes of Hannah Montana as Mikayla, one of Hannah’s pop star rivals.
“Selena sings and acts and is really young,” a source reports. “She is going to be the next Miley Cyrus. [Disney executives] really want this.”
Next up for Gomez is the Warner Bros. movie Another Cinderella Story, scheduled for a fall release. No surprise, but I’ve just learned that Gomez has recorded several new songs for the flick.
“The studio has high hopes for this,” says my source.
But a Disney rep insists there are no plans to try and replace Cyrus in any way with Gomez.
“We are fortunate to work with a host of young actors and actresses who are each unique and making their own trajectory based on their talent,” the rep said via email this morning. “However, Wizards of Waverly Place is a bona fide hit with kids and families, and licensees and retailers are indeed interested in the series. As for Selena, she deserves all the success that’s coming her way.”

Yes, Selena is a wonderful girl, and some people may think she’s a spotlight stealer because most people like Miley. I looked at Miley’s picture and OMG she has lots of zits! Selena is so smooth and perfect! Miley is growing too fast. Selena’s still young and pretty. I like both of them EQUALLY and I don’t want them to be rivals because of the paparazzi. Miley’s already famous, so give Selena a chance, people! I also like Miley, but please don’t argue about who’s more famous. Selena and Miley, please stay friends.

I know it will take a while to type in,but it is worth it. miley is ruining her image herself. Why would she put a video on youtube where everyone can see it that makes fun of other celebrities. It’s like she can’t handle that other people can have shows and movies on disney channel too. She just can’t take it that her viewers like other actresses too, and this may just be my, but i think it is pretty immature. I myself used to be a fan, but all the things she’s doing she could have prevented by not being so immature to begin with. I really think she can still save her image, like the new episodes of hannah montana coming up, she should start a whole new season. Her popularity was at its peak during the show. She’s just gonna keep going down if she doesn’t do something about it, and i know its probably not her decision about making another season on disney channel, but the show is so popular she should be able to. Miley had a bright future ahead of it, but it keeps becoming more hazy, and she can save herself by stopping the pictures and the videos that are ruining her hannah montana image!

on that note, selena gomez is stealing no spotlight. she has a popular show, are people going to punish her for being successful with what she does. Hannah Montana has been on so long, that when a new show comes around that people like, all of a sudden somebody is stealing the spotlight. Disney channel does not revolve around miley cyrus, nor does it revolve around anyone else. even if they don’t like each other, which people will never know for sure, they don’t seem to fight and bicker and are both successful with what they do.
selena is a better actress, to me, but miley is the better singer. They have their strengths and weaknesses, just like everybody else, and they don’t like everyone they meet, just like everybody else…
and thats okay, because it shows that they are, in fact, just like everybody else..and i think that somebody who is followed by paparazzi all the time likes that feeling of being just like everybody else. They have to put up with accusations and rumors that may be false, and think of school, rumors and accusations that may be false happen there too. It’s very similar, and i think that if people stop focusing on miley for a while, she’ll have time to recover from all the hype.
oh and i know i was gonna stay on topic, but again johnny talkback i am really sorry, and i am 18 by the way.
