More than 50 million units shifted worldwide; 2008 line-up revealed.
THQ’s longstanding video games relationship with Nickelodeon continues to bear fruit, resulting in sales of more than $1 billion and accounting for over 50 million units worldwide.
The company has also unveiled its line-up for 2008, with many popular characters returning.
The Naked Brothers Band will make their video games debut, with The Naked Brothers Band: The Video Game (working title). In addition, Spongebob Squarepants will take on a new creative form in Drawn to Life: Spongebob Squarepants Edition. Based on last year’s top selling game for Nintendo’s DS system, the title will allow players to draw their own characters.
The 2008 portfolio will also include new games based on Nick TV shows Tak and the Power of Juju, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Back at The Barnyard.
“With the enormous popularity of Wii and DS coupled with our exceptionally diverse portfolio of Nickelodeon-based games, THQ continues to lead in family entertainment,” said Jim Huntley, director of global brand management at THQ.
“We expect our upcoming titles to offer completely new ways for families to play together.”

“The Mighty B!” follows the exploits of young Bessie Higgenbottom, a not-quite-10-year-old Honeybee scout so dedicated she imagines herself, at times, as the first badge-collecting superhero. There is, not to worry, plenty of dialogue — of the loud, hyper, neon-hued but occasionally very funny variety that is standard Nick. Indeed much has been made of Bessie’s voice, or at least of Amy Poehler, the gal behind her voice.
Between now famously impersonating Hillary Clinton on “Saturday Night Live” and starring next to Tina Fey in the movie “Baby Mama,” Poehler is riding one of those career tsunamis that could leave her on top of the world or amid the rubble and wreckage. Either way, she gives Bessie a nice lisp and an amusingly realistic tendency to yell and badger and obsess. Not that I would recognize these characteristics among any children of my acquaintance.

THQ has the “kid-friendly” genre all sewn up. Between their Pixar license and their Nickelodeon license, they make the games that kids want. And it looks like 2008 will be no different as the company has announced their 2008 slate of games based on Nickelodeon properties. They also seem to know what consoles the kids love as there will be no Nickelodeon games released this year on the PlayStation 3, PSP or Xbox 360. All of these games will only be coming to the DS, PlayStation 2 or the Wii.
In addition, Tak Mojo Mistake is scheduled for release on Nintendo DS.

Forget Dr. McDreamy and the fashionable gals of “Sex and The City.” The stars of a hit television show aimed at preschoolers, “Yo Gabba Gabba!” are now the ones capturing the often coveted eyes of twenty-somethings nationwide.
The Nickelodeon series, a mix of animated shorts and live action, aims to teach kids important life lessons, such as why it’s good to eat vegetables and how to make their beds.
But it’s not just a hit among the crayon-wielding, sticky-fingered crowd that the producers originally intended the show for.
An older demographic — college students and many parents of preschoolers — has become just as, if not more, obsessed with “Yo Gabba Gabba!” as the toddlers who the show is aimed at.
Georgia Southern University sophomore James Kicklighter told ABCNews.com that he and his friends meet to watch “Yo Gabba Gabba!” three times a week.

Today THQ announced their upcoming video-game lineup with their long time partner Nickelodeon. Approaching releases include The Naked Brothers Band: The Video Game and Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition. The Naked Brothers Band title is based off a popular Nickelodeon television show that chronicles the life of Nat and Alex Wolff and their experiences as the front of a kids’ rock band. The SpongeBob title brings together one of Nickelodeons most popular characters with the popular Drawn to Life Nintendo DS game which was released last year. In the game, players can use their creativity to populate Bikini Bottom by drawing their own characters. THQ and Nickelodeon also plan on putting out games based on TV shows Tak and the Power of Juju, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Back at the Barnyard. A new Nicktoons installment is also in the works.
