The Olympic gold medallist has denied reports she kissed American swimming great Michael Phelps at a Games celebration in Beijing.

But the 20-year-old says meeting the record-breaking winner of eight Olympic gold medals at Beijing was inspirational.

Rice and her former boyfriend - fellow Australian swim team member Eamon Sullivan - appeared before media and shoppers at a Sydney department store today to spruik a line of underwear, hours after returning from China.

The triple gold medallist denied reports she shared a kiss with superfish Phelps at a post-swim meet party.

“No,” she said adamantly.

“It was just great to meet him and meet people you usually see on TV like (tennis No1 Rafael) Nadal and (Roger) Federer,” she said.

“For me, Michael Phelps is a real inspiration and someone you really look up to.”

Rice and Sullivan parted ways on the eve of the Olympics after a two-year romance, saying they wanted to concentrate on their swimming.

Sullivan, 22, who took silver in the 100m freestyle, said he hadn’t spoken to Rice about the reports of a relationship with Phelps.

“That’s her business and, now that we’re friends, it’s not something I have to worry about,” he said.

“She’s a mature girl and makes her own decisions and we’re just enjoying being friends and that’s something you just can’t take away.

The then-couple appeared together in an advertisement for Davenport underwear before the Games and were today meeting their contractual obligations at Sydney’s Myer department store.

Rice’s personal life has been the subject of speculation after taking her trifecta of gold in the 200m and 400m individual medleys and the 4×100m freestyle relay.

During the Games, Rice’s grandfather Jack told the Seven Network he expected the couple to reunite after the Olympics.

But Sullivan said the pair would just remain friends.

“We’re still apart,” he said today.

“We’re enjoying being good friends. We spent two years together and that’s something you don’t forget quickly.

“I’m really enjoying being here with Steph.”

As a Grammy-nominated songwriter, Kara DioGuardi has worked with the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, the Jonas Brothers, David Cook, Britney Spears and even Celine Dion. But as a judge on the forthcoming season of “American Idol,” how will she fare with the likes of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul? Well, she’ll find out Tuesday (August 26), when she meets up with her new co-workers for the first time during the New York round of “Idol” auditions.

In a conference call with reporters on Monday, just hours after she was announced as the reality show’s fourth judge, DioGuardi admitted that she’s “a little nervous” about her new gig — but that doesn’t mean she’s going to be a pushover.

“I’m going to be a straight-shooter and say it like I see it and maintain that philosophy,” she said, according to People.com. “I’m somebody who’s really honest and gives an opinion. If I feel I need to be hard, I will be. And if I feel I need to be more nurturing, I will be.”

DioGuardi said she “almost fell off the chair” when the show’s producers contacted her about the job, and expressed excitement about working next to Abdul, with whom she collaborated on Kylie Minogue’s 2000 track “Spinning Around.” Asked if she thought Abdul felt threatened by her addition, DioGuardi said that, though she hadn’t spoken to her colleague, “I would think she’d be excited.”

The songwriter added that she hopes to inject “a new chemistry” into the panel, but she’s not entirely sure how the judges will break ties during the auditions. While most viewers won’t recognize her when the next season of “Idol” gets under way this coming January, DioGuardi said she hopes fans will accept her.

“I’m not a household name,” she said. “I’m putting some money into buying some makeup.”

A frequent complaint on the gossip blogs is that 18 year old Hayden Panettiere dresses too old for her age. So we were pleasantly surprised to see little miss thang show up for the Trump Tower Dubai party a la Sharon Stone in a crazy animal print dress.

Hayden looks stunning and definitely age appropriate. Our only slight adjustment would be to add an inch or two to the hem length of her dress — not because we’re prudes, but because she looks uncomfortable. Check out her hand holding down the fort — Hayden knows that with one stiff breeze, we’d all be in big trouble.
